Papers, 1989-1992, bulk 1990-1992.

The accession includes correspondence, notes, memoranda, photographs, video tape recordings, newspaper articles, references, financial records and other material documenting the Scripps Ocean Technology Forum Human Powered Submarine Team and the design, testing and construction of SubDUDE, the participation of SubDUDE in the Second International Human Powered Submarine Races off Boca Raton, Florida in June 1991 and the effort to place a SubDUDE speed record in the Guinness Book of World Records. The papers were created and/or collected by Kevin Hardy. Lockheed Advanced Marine Systems donated the vessel GOSSAMER ALBACORE to the team. This vessel had participated in the First International Human Powered Submarine Races. Kevin Hardy and the team planned to reduce GOSSAMER ALBACORE to a bare hull, redesign it and reconstruct it. The redesigned vessel was called SubDUDE.
